Hangar No. 5 Teaser Reel

Hanger No. 5Blender has found it’s uses in many different toolboxes of the CG industry and one example of commercial Blender usage is in this new short live action/cg film that Nathan Matsuda (nathanmatsuda.com) is creating.

Although still in early development a very nice teaser reel has been released to help get some publicity for the project as they are currently looking for funding. They are looking to use film grants to fund the project but will probably accept private funding. If you are interested in helping with this project please contact the project directly at hangarnumber5.com

I’m working on a short live action/cg film that is using blender for all of our modeling, animation, and rendering. We have a trailer out and we’re working on raising money to shoot the actual film. We think the Blender community would be a good place to start gaining publicity. Go to hangarnumber5.com to view the trailer.

Time to be serious now, people ;)

  2. 2 meialua

Looking excellent :) was expecting some sort of jump at the end, like the monster to burst out of the screen, thats if it IS a monster, looks kinda friendly somehow..

  3. 3 5to11

Looks good from what you can see, good luck.

Should it be 'Hanger', with an 'e' not an 'a' ?

    @5to11: you're right! Fixed.

    Wow.

I was expecting some kind of cheesy super wu-man kind of teaser (nofi @ wu-man btw ;), but this certainly was far better!!

This is excellent and high quality work :)

And 5to11, it's hangar, not hanger.. the latter is for putting your clothes on :P

  6. 6 Piet

Hangar No. 5, that must be where Chanel makes their perfumes… lol

The compositing in the trailer seems really good, I wonder what software they are using for the motion tracking.

Word up. I sent our friend Nathan Matsuda an e-mail about writing the music for this film. Maybe he'll say yes…? Oh, and Colin, it's cool to see you're approving. The giant robot and camera tracking bit totally reminded me of you. I agree with meialua though. It does look kind of friendly somehow. Perhaps take some example from Evangelion. Those were some creepy looking robots (while maintaining that clean look). I really like the light on the front. Looks fantastic. I'll put the trailer for this in my spring film fest. :D

Wish I could see it, unfortunately newest plugins seldom work for us linux users. Anyway you could post a direct link?

Very very cool. You've got the process down – scripting, actor selection and training, camera positioning, on-scene filming, lighting, fades, blue screen studio shooting, compositing, music, production, creating the buzz (advertising) and of course, excellent Blender work. My hat's off to you.

PS-I'm searching for good blue screening techniques for the wiki – if you used Blender to composite, could you please send me or post in BlenderArtists how you did it? thx.
