German Training DVD: Blender 2.5

20

German trainer Helge Maus has released a Blender 2.5 training DVD. It contains 11 chapters and in over 12 hours of video, and looks like a solid piece of work. You can watch a 7-minute free sample, 'Modeling a Flag' online (in German, of course). The DVD is priced at €39,90.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. -.- i'm not very impressed by those tuts anyway for a starter it might be good even though blender should stay freeware xD

  2. I'm a total beginner in Blender.
Because this DVD is quite a good idea,
in order to understand better some terms.

The videos are very good in English,
but every now and then but then, I lack the understanding
for what is done there or meant.

I hope so soon to the big Blender community to belong.

  3. I think it is ridiculous to release a DVD if 2.5 is not even final... That's only a rip-off, nothing else.

  4. I'm from germany (holy sh*t 4:0 yay ;) and not a beginner.
I don't think that these tutorials are very good (fe. the audio quality sucks, he speaks much to quiet and he doesn't explain everything he's doing - that might be confusing)
Better learn english and take a look at the tutorials from Andrew Price.

The only ones who should sell something are the guys from the blender foundation!

umm.... andrew price is selling the wow factor

  6. I don't know any german but this sample video was helpful and understandable anyway.
Looks like the video is not recorded with screen capture software but with some hardware via VGA cable.
How else there could be a picture noise?

  7. I watched the DVD and it's great.
Please shut up if you're just making assumptions.
I wrote a review in german, translating it right now.

  8. There can be picture noise. Some videocodecs do this, you can often see it in tutorials... maybe we need an tutorialvideocodec which does not waste the quality for unneeded picturenoise?

I think the tutorials are ok for beginners, but i hope there is some introduction video that i havent seen yet, which tells the keyboard commands, because a beginne would be totally confused without them...

  9. I think the presentation is excellent: the interface, the audio quality, and the video quality. I didn't experience any of the video "noise" that others have mentioned. I don't speak German so I can't comment on the quality of the instruction.

  10. Only to explain:

It is not the English language, which makes in English Videos problems, but the use of terms that understand is not easy to understand related to Blender, especially for Beginners.

Therefore, it is also very good, that the DVD used the english Version of Blender. Even precisely for this reasons.

Anyway, I'm satisfied with the quality and I've already seen a part of the DVD...

  11. I hope the video quality is better in the actual DVD. Otherwise: €39,90 is way too much. You should get the Blu-Ray copy with that price, imo.

    Otherwise great job, I quess..

  12. thanks for the info. but i rather wait for my Durian DVD. the video and sound quality of the sample is nice though ^_^

  13. First I want to say that you can't only watch one free sample (the flag) but if you hover over the left side of the vid, you can choose a couple of others too.

Second I can't really see what TLOZ means: The quality is good enough. It's an online video, so most likely it will be better on DVD. He is perfectly understandable and uses clear and simple language. (I'm Austrian) There where few things which could have been better and I guess, it's far away from something like CG cookie or Andrew Price but it's up on par with the average english tutorial. (CG and AP are way above the average)

  14. #The only ones who should sell something are the guys from the blender foundation!

So the foundation are the only ones alowed to earn money from Blender?

Will you stand in the front line complaining about entertainment companies not releasing their material to the community for free if Blender starts to grow into the commersial side of VFX?
