Game in progress using Blender
A project called Java Classic RPG is in development for creating a classic role playing game, using Java and Blender for 3D. Here is a description of the project, as showed in the development page:
“Developing a nice RPG framework in Java after finding out that we have a cool Java OpenGL engine. Creating a nice enchanting old-fashioned pen and paper & turn based game with a decent story / AI and a huge place to play.â€
The lead developer of this project is called Paul, and he has created a Blog to show the progress of the game development. There are a lot of screenshots from the environments used for the game and more. You can visit the blog here. A page for the project is available at sourceforge.

graphics look like runescape, but a bit better. hope its fun :)

Because Java (just like flash) is already on most systems and ready to go. It runs right out of the box:)
@gord: ever tried cross compiling big c++ projects using huge library dependencies – crystal and ogre itself need a lot of libraries and your project will need a few more – for linux, mac and windows? i guess not, you would not ask such questions and would have already ended up either using irrlicht ;) or java… or python… or pike… or purebasic… ooooor the blender game engine ;)
anyhow, nice that there are a lot projects using blender, but i don’t think every game using blender should be posted on a blender news page, becaus i am sure there are many – infact i used blender for a game myself ;)

java games are cool as there is the possibility of running them on most mobile phones – I don’t know whether this is the intention of this game in particular but I believe that is why OpenGL is coming in on the java scene anyway.

Java has been chosen because I am most experienced in Java programming, and saw the advantage of writing a cross-platform-by-default game with it and JMonkeyEngine.
The project uses and will use blender because it’s totally free (just like JCRPG) and very usable. Yeah, and consider that the project has no real 3d guru at the moment, so the game will surely look weird or ugly for professionals. :-D

ps: not intended for mobile, for mobiles has weak computing capacity and game is aimed to need and rely on it much in terms of AI and the world generation concept.
This project has serious potential to become an excellent rpg framework/game and has my full support. Paul will generate something of true value. Can’t wait to see what the finished project will look like. :o)

Magnificent goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you’re just too magnificent. I actually like what you’ve acquired here, certainly like what you are stating and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still care for to keep it sensible. I can’t wait to read much more from you. This is actually a great site.
