Elephants Dream License Explained
Elephants Dream is the first Open Source movie. This doesn’t just mean that Open Source software was used to produce it, but that all the production files will be Open Source as well! So, if you don’t like one scene or you want to change it you can fire up Blender, load the files and go ahead. The files will be published under a Creative Commons license.
The movie “Elephants Dream†and all data on the DVDs and almost all of the contents on this website is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribute license. In short, this means you can freely reuse and distribute this content, also commercially, for as long you provide a proper attribution.

This is the first time such a large collection of files get launched under ‘the commons’, and therefore still a bit complex to grasp what to credit when exactly. The guidelines above are just meant to ensure that attribution happens in a reasonable way. If in doubt, use the third choice above.

I am planning to show the movie to my Computer Graphics class at Catania University.
This of course when I will get the DVD (when? when? I can’t wait!)
May I do that without asking permission to anyone? The public performance of the DVD is allowed without any other obligation than to give credits at the great Orange team?

Great! Thanks for the link. It still wasn’t perfectly clear to me, however. So, I posted a question at the blog.
In the blog it says, “You can organize a screening in a cinema, and charge an entrance fee for it. Just include the movie credits in the screening.” So, I think you are good to go giogallo.

I’m eager to see the messed up renditions of Elephants Dream scenes that are going to surface on Elysiun (oops, sorry, it’s Blenderartists.org now) in the months and years to come. Anything is possible, from simply recutting the movie to… who knows? :) Maybe we’ll see someone modify the animation and use the characters to advertise something in a Superbowl commercial someday. hehe
