*HEADBANGS*
that animation was delicious ^^
it looks so so ugly , geeezas , and its not funny !
Seriously vladyk!
If you don’t like it be quiet or at least show me you can do better!
I like this short, nice style on it, like a Nintendo 64 game or something.
Its rather peculiar that everything but animation was done in blender. strange. but to each his own I guess Neat little work you’ve got here I felt bad for the poor chick.
happy Easter egg to everyone ;)
Usually those making such an ugly stuff are ashamed to show it. Sorry for blendernation showing a failed maya (not even blender) animation. We are used to very good things from this great website.
But many (as Holeman) like it. So I suppose, it must be good.
IMHO, other than seeming a little short, I thought it was delightful. Interesting graphic look to it look too.
it has some nice looks, on the contrary of what some people think beautiful doesn’t mean good, he uses his own style and that’s what important. Too bad the animations were done in maya :<
Why needed to use Maya ? hmm this don`t qualify for “Blender”….Animation part good but not realy useful for Blender 3D comunity.
The shading looked really nice.
Only the animation was done in Blender. So what’s wrong? This is Blender material.
Yay for Blender!!! :D
I like the way the cat’s tail moves. Theres also a good rhythm there with the music and the movement / camera changes.
Another great example that fanboys will like just about ANYTHING – doesnt matter how bad it would be – just because was done in Blender. Way to go lol.
A fun little short. Thanks for sharing it.
I am curious, though, why you chose Maya for doing the animation, and Blender for doing shading/lighting/etc.? I would have expected the reverse, as Blender tends to have better animation tools, and Maya now comes with with Mentalray.
same questions as nathan + what was your workflow of import export of animations or meshes beetween maya and blender? me just beeing curious
pretty much same what oenvoyage said… i am really curios about the workflow… sure models and material could have been shared… but i cant imagine animation. i like the style… not the most beautiful and jaw dropping looks… but nice style indeed
edit : just watched the complete video… apart from style i didn’t find anything good. even the story… oh well
I enjoyed it very much. I liked the unusual and obvious low-poly style. I also don’t quite get why the animation itself was done in Maya when Blender would have been more than capable. Still, great stuff. Exactly my sense of humour.
I love this. Should be longer.
Has anyone ever rigged anything in Maya? It’s a total nightmare. Why anyone would ever want to go there after doing the bulk of the project in blender (or any other 3D program) is beyond me.
This is the worst crap I have ever seen. I 100% agree to “serpent”!
Modelling – bad
Texturing – was there any?
Animation – Uhm yeah…
Lightning and Rendering – I dont wanna think about it, makes me feel sick
Story – Cat eats new born chicken – very funny and great punchline
I am not absolutely shure, but I could imagine the creator did all of this in Maya but was afraid to show it on a Maya-related website, being aware how bad it is. There seems to be more acceptance for poor results in blender communities, maybe thats why this things is now “partly done in blender”.
Blender was used in the pipeline, therefore no reason why it shouldn’t be shown here. I don’t think it’s a failed animation, I thought it was very funny. I also liked the rough and ready style and approach.
ORG is so so 1000% wright ! I think the comunity should be more selective about what its posted on the site ! And we all should encourage great work not crap like this one ! and youtube is full of crapy stuff like this one but it doesent mean we should link them all to Blender !
that was sad and slightly desturbing
lets consider for a moment that some people don’t like to wake up on Easter morning and check the news only to find something unpleasant being posted by there favorite team
like it
When you go to the vimeo-site, you’ll see the credits having 7 names(!).
I guess the guy(1/7) responsible for the animation prefers Maya?
To the 7:
It’s not my favorite style, but these type of styles lend itself very well for this type of shorts.
To the producer, it takes time to get things across not flashes… and use the focus-way your eye also uses exploring a room, e.g. first ‘tail rubs egg’ THEN ‘overview’ ergo tell a story, the story can be a mystery but the story itself cannot.
genial
ORG, vladyk:
i’m no fanboy or extremist, and liked it. just because it’s a unique style you didn’t like it?
look at Picasso: http://www.canalpatrimonio.com/imagftp/im1508121041638804366_picasso2.jpg for example. his humans are technically “bad” because they ain’t photo realistic. however, his stuff is worth more money then most people will ever have.
same thing here. as iCandy said: “beautiful doesn’t mean good”.
Look at the fifth comment down in this other video of his. It explains the animation being done in Maya.
http://vimeo.com/6547250
Why would you do such a thing?
Animate in Maya in render in Blender?
I mean Blender is good, but Maya, well you know why you pay for it ;)
I’m not sure the comparison between Blender and Maya is useful. This level of animation, though delightful, is of course, not high-end and could be accomplished in either package. I love and use both Blender and Maya, but Maya is VERY flexible, deep, and nuanced when it comes to animation tools, surpassing Blender in this respect,, but it is a learning mountain to climb, to be sure. Rendering effectively in Maya is very labour-intensive, and the rendering/uv tools are more immediate in Blender, so I can appreciate how this particular workflow has come about.
Why there’s no voting letting the community decide what should be posted on the wall and what shouldn’t (just like on CGTalk)? This will ensure that no obvious shit like this one and Mancandy animations will pass to the frontpage and ruin the reputation of our CG community.
No guys, srsly. WTF? Look what’s on ZBrushCentral and CGSociety on their frontpages. Yes, they don’t have updates daily but at least there’re no cheap works with aggression and retarded sense of humor.
Maya? How dare you involve this majestic piece of software in creation of such a ******* piece of animation ****?
Well, I liked it – style and all. Reminds me a little bit of some of David O’Reilley’s work, especially “Please Say Something.” Very minimalistic, but to me very appealing.

To the naysayers,
Please, for goodness sake have some respect for the artist(s). Regardless of whether you like the animation or not they put their time into it and got it posted, the least you can do is give some constructive criticism.
Personally, I rather like it. It’s short, blunt and to the point. The style, while perhaps a little too simple for my taste, is refreshing. I would much rather see a very simple animation like this, in a very clear, lowpoly form. Than to see an animation that was intended to be highly detailed but just came across as awkward. At least this way it has personality.
Cheers,
Jonathan
i agree with Jonathan Williamson.
it was stylized. you don’t have to like the style, but you should appreciate it. there’s no shame in going simple, because frankly that’s what you have to do when you have a deadline. and simple works with the style.
and why yell at blendernation? it doesn’t claim to have amazing stuff in every post. i think this was festive enough and remarkable enough to be appropriate. you should be able to take the humor even if you dont think it’s funny.
you don’t need to compare it to “ZBrushCentral and CGSociety” because that’s not what blendernation is.
i think most of the negative comments here are simply because the one part, the animation, was done in maya. blender is free, maya is not, but that’s not the point. i think it’s pretty cool that they used blender.
anyways, check out their easter short from last year!
http://vimeo.com/4095670
because that’s not what blendernation is. <<<
I guess it's just a my dream seeing blendernation as progressive and professional as aforementioned forums are.
Thanks to those who appreciate this piece of … erm work. Now blendernation is doomed to have abuse vids with mancandy every week.
Clean and simple. Keep it up guys, congrats on getting it done.
@Holmen +1 I wish everyone had your attitude.
Agrees with “Agent”. Don’t feed the Blender-Haters with things like this.
*puzzled and disappointed*
nice art style..the animation is good enough to us laugh…congratulation to the artist….
@to those haters out there :: please turn your attention to the positive side and the meaning of the animation not the bedside in that way we will go in peace :D
sorry for the bad English ;>
‘Agent’ – nasty bastard. As you dislike other peoples work so much , why don’t you post some of your jaw-dropping, earth-shattering work that will convince all the so-called pro’s over at those other forums that Blender is the way to go. [ZBrushCentral – do me a favor, the same stagnant, stale old f***ing rubbish done by the same old f***ing rubbish].
Just because you do not like someone’s work does not mean that everybody has else has to, who the f***ing hell are you to call this ‘shit’?
Well….it wasn’t funny for me, and i don’t think it’s an “original style”.
Maya? why maya for animation and Blender for illumination? Maybe Org is correct and he made evrything in maya…
Two things I liked:
-The movement of the titles.
-The instant change in the emotion of the piece.
But really, that’s not what easter is all about. It should have been a bunny, not a cat. ;-)

“why don’t you post some of your jaw-dropping, earth-shattering work that will convince all the so-called pro’s over at those other forums that Blender is the way to go.”
==========================
Because this takes time to make a work which matches my sense of beauty and technical complexity. I’m working right now so I don’t have much time for art. But I do have time and rights to express my opinions publicly. And I:
1. don’t have to prove my skills to obtain the right to criticize others work (cause I’ve already got that right).
2. don’t want to convince anybody, empathy is enough and (magic!) some even share the same opinion.
==========================
“ZBrushCentral – do me a favor, the same stagnant, stale old f***ing rubbish done by the same old f***ing rubbish”
==========================
In particular you’re right. But that f***ing rubbish is a bit better than this f***ing rubbish and way better than the last mancandy announcement (pure WTF).
==========================
“who the f***ing hell are you to call this ’shit’?”

I’m Batman.
I liked the style and the story. I laughed alot.
That is what Blender is REALLY all about: “impromptu cuteness”. This is the germ of creativity. Blender can do an impressive sub-set of Maya stuff, and most individuals do not have ten-kilobucks to buy an Autodesk suite, and if they did they would not use it to produce such “cute” and entertaining things as the Easter Cat. In a tense world, the Easter Cat is a real tension breaker. Keep it up!
If I had the ten kilobucks necessary to purchase the Autodesk Maya suite, I would not waste it on Maya. I would get a motorcycle. It is spring. In the northern hemisphere it is the time for wind in the face and bugs in the teeth.
I am a techie expert, but I just wish I had the artistic skills to create something as good as the Easter Cat. I do not.

>_> …/…(..” .?
I think that people are blowing this a little out of proportion.
The visual style is perfectly fine. The animation is somewhat klutzy, and largely disobeys most of the major principles of animation, as defined by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston.
Maybe it shouldn’t have been posted. It has been posted. Get over it.
‘Agent’ – still a nasty bastard. Your comments are not ‘criticism’, just nasty.
‘which matches my sense of beauty and technical complexity’ – this kind of pretentious gibberish DOES need to be backed up by example.
‘I’m Batman’ – mental health issues there, I’m afraid.
“this kind of pretentious gibberish DOES need to be backed up by example”

Go to forums.cgsociety.com CG Choice Gallery: 3D. Each piece of art presented there goes to their frontpage and takes much more of effort and creative skills to be completed.
Need animation examples? Several threads lower: “Finished Work: Animation” contains a load of commercially paid and high quality works. Some of them also go to the frontpage but unfortunately there’s no separate “Choice Gallery” thread for animations.
Ok, the movie sucked, but really is there anything better to be posting lately? It’s not like there were piles of amazing new blender videos competing to be posted and this is the one that was selected.
If you know of something more fitting for the front page, submit it to the community news.
it’s very bad and ugly…….don’t use blender anymore..plss….
Too bad ‘Easter Cat’ didn’t croak to life last week. Woulda been a funny April Fool’s joke to make it the banner art here on BN.
I read all the comments first, and from them I expected to find the kernel of a good animation here, but one where the execution was lacking in some respects.
Unfortunately it really was extremely poor, without any redeeming quality (editing, modeling, lighting, story etc were all very amateurish). But this is true of many beginners efforts, and that’s fine: no one expects brilliance from novices.
The real question is why was this posted? Where is the editorial judgment? Work from novices belongs in the forums, not on the front page of blendernation.
This movie was apparently interesting since it spawned so many comments, good and bad. Mission accomplished I suppose. And people, please do not take things like this so seriously. There is a life passing by your window.
Hi,
Good Morning,
I am new here in blender and I’m having some trouble in studying blender. I do have a training but until now i don’t know how to use and make an animation..Please P.M me in my email please please please..I need some help…Please Im a fast learner if someone can teach me..please…help me to solve my problem(Speeky please help me)…
DFTT
matt86 – and if will be no news they should make up some fake ones? Come on – if there is no new GOOD movies then dont post nothing and wait. Simple as that. Who needs that kind of “news”….
Hello
I’m really ashamed about most of the comments. The creator spent hours with this work and most of You can’t criticize it properly without hurt his feelings.
If You can’t give a proper critic that might could move the creator for a positive way. Than don’t say a f**in word.
You know the rule: live and let live.
I’m still on a learning curve with blender, so I don’t have the necessary skills to understand the underlying work. So I don’t complain about it. Even if I were a PRO, I wouldn’t say such rude things that many sed here. Most likely “Agent”.
For me it was cute, simple and the plot was a classic prank.
By the way most of You – especially “Agent” – are referring to CGSociety.
For god sake! This is NOT CGSociety! This is BLENDERNATION!!!
If You don’t like it, then make You’re own website, or go to the CGS and don’t come here ever again. Please!!! We don’t need You!!! You are just a pain in the ass with Your attitude!!!
Be polite with others! Think about it, how would You feel in his place, before You write some sh*t critic!
For the others:
Have a nice day, and good blending!
For the creator:
Nice job! Its was for me a little day brighter.
Hi everybody,
I usually don’t post comments on what is shown on Blendernation, but I thought today that, maybe, I could join a useless post to the other ones :)
I didn’t like the video, mainly because i ain’t no lowfi fan (even if i remember seeing at Clermont-Ferrand short films festival a really good one few months ago) and also I think the idea isn’t good nor well developped. My personal opinion on that matter.
Just some thoughts :
– people who created the movie thought it was good enough to be shared and subsequently submitted to others comments and crits
– Most liked it, some didn’t
both expressed it because on blender nation there is a section called “leave a reply”
– Of course, receiving bad comments on your work “hurts your personal feelings”, but sometimes it can be a good thing because it makes you want to improve for next time.
as a conclusion :
I think it’s not a good animation (even if it is technically pretty good), but maybe it’s the only easter stuff blendernation received, so in a certain way it’s the best so far…
here is a famous quote about journalism (in french, i lost my dictionnary so I can’t translate it) :
” Sans liberté de blâmer, il n’est point d’éloge flatteur ”
cheers.
Some liked it, some didn’t. Way of the world. Perhaps it’s best left at that. Moving swiftly on, check out some really professional blending …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko
As atomicboy said: check out their previous Easter Short: http://vimeo.com/4095670
Much much better.
Than don’t say a f**in word.
==========================
No man you don’t tell me what I do. I think this clip is technically miserable and I’m expressing my opinion, not trying to criticize it just because with the current amount of efforts put in it I don’t think the author was willing to do his best. If author is not willing to put more efforts I have no particular reason to comment it’s technical part whatsoever.
I have mentioned though that this one is much better than the previous more technically complex Mancandy video just because this short doesn’t contain retarded sense of humor and swearing. So after all he has one and huge positive point here.
For god sake! This is NOT CGSociety! This is BLENDERNATION!!!
==========================
I’m not the only one who’s mentioning that the quality of our frontpage has greatly degraded while there still is something good to show. Don’t you want to see high-quality works on the front instead of these ones? Don’t you think that BlenderNation is undermining the overall image of our community just by presenting such a works?
I’d like to see BlenderNation showing really outstanding works to the other 3d artists just randomly visiting blender pages and then telling others what we are capable of. Right now they can see retarted clips with Mancandy and poor quality animations and that shall be image of an average “outstanding” Blender user: unable to animate properly but able to swear and draw wtf things.
Please!!! We don’t need You!!!
==========================
We? You and S&W? There’re some people who still need me and whom I’m willing to help to. Like noobs who’re still learning though putting great effort into exploration of modeling techniques and trying to do their best.
Ok, I think we’ve seen everyone’s opinion by now and I’m closing off commenting for this post.
