Racetrack how-to screenshotThis is the title of an interesting series of tutorials released by Daniel Sefton on his site, a “must” for all those racing-sim-developers-wanna-be being hardly tempted by Club SILO.

This guide shows you how to create basic models step by step starting from a 2D draft and ending with a simple engine to test your tracks:

  1. Preparations
  2. Modeling the Track (Part 1)
  3. Modeling the Track (Part 2)
  4. Texturing the Track
  5. Final Touches
  6. A Simple Test Engine

The modeling technique exposed by Daniel can be useful in “standard” CG too, just think of a country landscape crossed by a road/river, I bet that few of us know how to create something like this keeping the mesh clean…

Good work Daniel!

I just want to let everyone know about the status of the website… I did not intend for this to happen at all, and it looks like someone has snapped up my domain name; which I’m absolutely distraught about. I’m trying my best to sort it out, and I want to reassure everyone that I will hopefully get it back online soon.

I apologize deeply for any inconvenience.

    Thanks,
    Daniel Sefton.
