Community Interview: Peach Team

mikes.jpgIt looks like I'll be spending next Friday at the Blender Institute in Amsterdam! I'll have time to see how everyone is doing, taste the atmosphere in the team and see the current state of the project. I'm also going to do short interviews with the team members and YOU can tell me what to ask them!

If you have a burning question for someone, please leave it in a comment below (team member name + question); if someone else has posted a question that you like, vote for it by giving it a '+1'. Everyone is probably busy as heck, so I'll select only three questions for each member.

Ton: With regards to the production schedule- how did you calculate how long a particular part of the work process, such as storyboarding, modeling, texturing, animation etc. would take?

Sacha: Q1) You came up with the story for the peach project. How did you come up with the idea of the rabbit and the rodents? Q3) Did you have any organizational ideas beforehand about how the team should work and communicate- and how did these ideas turn out in reality?

Andy: The new approximation ambient occlusion apparently makes global illumination renderings with the ambient occlusion method faster. Do you now use ambient occlusion in every lighting/world setup?

To Enrico : there are a lot of good modeling and character animation tutorials for blender on the web , but not so many info and tutorials about enviroment creation , so we (the italian community) would like also to see (if it's possible) from you in the future a good tutorial about enviroment creation (maybe with composition and creation from concepts , since Enrico is a very fine simple art illustrator too)…It would be great for us to learn from your knowledge about this topic…so do you plan on doing something like this in the future?

    Thanks

  35. 35 wayne

And thats a very interesting idea. Since they are to much occupied with the project it would be nice to have a Training DVD based on the project Peach. :)

To Ton: What is the area of Blender that you think needs the most amount of work?

  40. 40 melon

To developers (Ton?): I've seen some brief preview of "color bleeding" feature provided with new aproximate ambient occlusion system. Will it be developed in future, possibly with some sort of (fake?) global illumination algorythm?
(I believe Blender really needs GI for proffesional usage).

  41. 41 Francisco Ortiz

We would like to see you with the Apricot team! All members together! Please make a photo!

    Hey… this is not a question… Ok:

    To Ton/Marg:

"Is there a meeting planed with Apricot (all members from Apricot/Peach)?"

    Thank you!

  42. 42 tom

To Brecht: What are you studying? How do you know about all that mathematical stuff that is used in rendering etc.?

To all: How old are you guys?

@Ton: what are the features coded for peach that we've not already seen ?

@William: what are the workflow and new features in the animation department

@Enrico: Do you miss Italy ? Do you need me to take a big giant porchetta or cheese and wine from Tuscany ?

@Nathan: do your rigs have some sort of space switching for arms and legs ? (ex: choose if arm ik is parented to head, torso, cog)

  45. 45 Bart

"Are you making good use of the things that are legal in Amsterdam? And how has that helped with the development of Peach and Blender?"

What? Their moms read this too, you know?! [evil grin]

  46. 46 humble

"What are your methods of rigging and what are the most important things to remember when rigging a model?"
    +1

It's a very unspecific question compared to the wide field of Rigging but I'm always interested in getting to know new ways of setting the armature. I hope he can tell us something new.

  47. 47 emili

+1 Are there any plans on making open movie that the community will activly be a part of?

  48. 48 humble

    ohoh, here's another one:
How did you do the details of the environment? Are the leaves and stuff all modeled or did you also use alpha textures on planes or any other tricks (apart from automatic generators!)?
    Thanks!

  49. 49 Dilly

    For Sacha:

+1 Whats your favorite directors? (specially animation directors)

  50. 50 anton

    To Enrico “EnV” Valenza.
How and with which programme / application do you make the environment/ backgrounds.

    greetings
    Anton

  51. 51 Anon

+1: @ton; What is the area of Blender that you think needs the most amount of work?

  52. 52 Pete

    The following question is interesting:
+1: @ton; What is the area of Blender that you think needs the most amount of work?

I really want you to ask Ton about it.

  53. 53 BlendRoid

To: Whoever it suits (Ton, I suppose)

Who is going to compose the music?

Jan Morgenstern did an amazingly complex and mystifying score for Elephants Dream which I can't help but listen to every other day or so. I hope the Peach music will be just as enjoyable and unique!

    To: Nathan

Why does the bunny resemble you? Is it an intentional inside joke or was it coincidence?

  54. 54 Toontje

Hypothetically, what if after showing the movie at Siggraph, you guys get job offers from Hollywood studios (artwork, art directing, animating, modeling, programming gigs etc.) ?

  55. 55 RH2

To the team: of the characters you guys created, which one is your favorite?
