CODE:FREE is a different pdf magazine / art book for the open source scene. It contains only pictures made with free (not freeware!) software like MyPaint, Glips, Krita, K-3D, 3D Canvas, Gogh or other . The most of it are made in Inkscape, Gimp or Blender. The magazine itself is made with Scribus.

And to think some pay for MS Publisher, Quark, Photoshop, or any other closed source product…
Congrats to the authors and artists; but I think they may need to break out the DTP 101. I noticed some severe compression artefacts and aliasing – for an artbook that’s a bit of a problem.
@Alex Blank: while I’ve nothing but respect for what the Scribus people are doing, having used it I’d have to say the closed source products are probably worth the money. The core is there but Scribus has a *long* way to go.
Wow, this is a great magazine. I not only like the art in it, but I also like how it introduces you to new open-source programs. Like in this one, there was a feature on Alchemy. I looked at it and said “Huh, never heard of it before. What does it do? Oh that’s cool! I could use that! I should go check it out!” Ya know? Even on things that weren’t featured, if you have never heard of the program the person used to make the picture, then you can just go look it up; it’s just a google away. :)
