Today we show Bob Holcomb giving a demonstration of video compositing and garbage matting in Blender. Garbage matting is used to occlude material from a video that should not be included in the final edit. Although I'm sure it's pretty common, it was the first time that I saw someone use this technique and I was intrigued by what he showed.
During Siggraph, the RealFlow/Next Limit booth was giving out informational booklets and t-shirts. The back of the books and the front of the t-shirt had an image of the number "4" written in python to indicate that the newest version of RealFlow had python scripting abilities which was highlighted with the words "RealFlow" and "Scripting Features" in bold. However, it seems that the marketing company hired by RealFlow must be HUGE Blender fans.

Bart filmed several of the demos at the booth but I don't know how well they turned out. I can only hope that we will be able to post some of the demos so everyone can experience them. In the mean time, and before we return to our regular news posts, I would like to highlight my Siggraph experience. (In all fariness to myself, there is some "news" below.)

We've had an amazing occurrence here at the booth. Well, actually Bassam just did.
Tuesday was the first day of the Trade-show and believe it or not, when the show opened people came running in looking for swag. Within a few minutes the Open Source Pavillion was crowded and the fun began!

Monday has been the best day so far! We worked from 9am to 11pm to finish the booth, I finally got to meet my BlenderNation partners Eugene and David, and we had an excellent pizza dinner at the floor of our booth ;-)

Sunday I spent the entire day at the Blender Birds of a Feather meeting. It is starting to show that Blender is becoming more and more popular: there were so many visitors that between 10 and 20 of them had to stand at the back of the room. I guess we had over a hundred people in there.

The Blender Foundation today announced their presence at the 2006 Siggraph Exhibition. They have teamed up with the Gnome Foundation and the Uni-verse consortium to create, for the first time ever, an Open Source pavilion on the exhibition.
