The Virtual Museum of Computers in Ciudad Real, Spain, offers a walk through the history of computers. Next to their display of a cool array of old computers, they have also created a virtual walkthrough, using Blender in the process. And guess what: they're offering .blend files of all their models under a Creative Commons license. I talked to the technical director of the project, Carlos González Morcillo, who explained how they used Blender.

I was in need of a snow material for a current project when I remembered the Blender Materials site. I hadn't been there in quite a while and I found exactly what I needed for this project. It saved me a lot of time. There's quite an impressive collection of FREE materials. I also noticed on thier home page that they have celebrated their first anniversary this month. So Congratulations and hats off to you all at Blender Materials for an outstanding job and collection.
Oooh, I love Doctor Who! I recently came across a modest Dr. Who model repository called 'BlenderWho' (a Tardis, the Seal of Rassilon and a whole bunch of Daleks) so I just HAD to share it here ;-) Does anyone know when the next season will begin, by the way?
Peaceloveandhappiness.org offers (amongst other things) a neat collection of freely downloadable fonts. They don't offer license details for each font - you'll have to check that yourself for each font. Enjoy!
CG-India.com features set of 21 3D models that are free for any type of use.
SabOUm has published a collection of 92 free textures and 6 skyboxes, all published under a Copyleft/Free Art license.
We reported on TrueBones.com before - they sell motion capture files at a $1 a piece. Since last time, they've added another 20 free motion capture files for download. Check out our previous post on how to import these files into Blender.
Here is another great model repository, now with a lot of car models. The DMI car 3d models are all available freely for download, in the LWO file format. That is fully compatible with Blender!

Looking for cool organic Blender materials? Check out this thread on BlenderArtists.org. It's a golden oldie that started almost three years ago. It contains lots of samples and quite a few .blends for download. Some of these materials are not easy on the stomach if you just woke up which is a big compliment to the creators! ;-)

Here's a resource you may know about already, but still definitely worth a mention! The Blender Open Material Repository is a site with over 200 native Blender materials available for download. Subjects range from typical (Car Paint) to the downright bizarre (Brains).

Do you remember the article, about mocap files? Where PlantPerson talks about motion capture technology and point to us a tutorial, showing how to use mocap files with Blender? Well, in this tutorial a very large library of free mocap files is used. We just found another huge mocap library, with a lot of files to download for free.

Motion capture is a special animation technique that allows human actors to define the movements of an animated character. Special cameras track the actor's movements and can then transfer them onto a CG character. The result is a simple yet realistic method of animating. Unfortunately, however, motion capture systems are very expensive, far too expensive for the hobbyist. That's where this great resource comes in!
