Issue 106 of 3D World is themed around free and open-source software. Editor Jim Thacker sent us a few opening spreads and as a bonus, he threw in the full article they published on Big Buck Bunny in issue 103. I love these guys ;-)

I'd kind of decided to stop singing songs of praise for Elephants Dream, but this is a story I think I should share with you: Elephants Dream made it into '3D World's greatest independent animated 3D shorts: 1997 to 2007'.

Blender artist Husam has won the third place in 3DTotal's Stylized Animal challenge "Hyena" with his hilarious picture of an hyena on a pogo-stick.

A cool article about the Papervision component, which allows Flash CS3 to work with 3D objects, was released by Computer Arts magazine. It works like a real-time 3D engine component. And they mention Blender at the article, as one of the tools that can produce 3D content to use in Flash.
An artist called Cristian Mihaescu has created a really great image named Night of The Cat. This image was created with Blender, Gimp and Inkscape. And now we can check out some of the techniques used to create "Night of the Cat", since Mr.Mihaescu was invited by the guys at 3dtotal to write an article about it, for their 3dcreative magazine.
Do you remember the Sam Brubaker's movie 'Infinitum' from last years Art Festival? Well, not only did he win first prize during the Blender Conference, but he also won an audience award for best animation during November’s Asheville Film Festival. The Asheville Citizen-Times featured an article on Sam's accomplishments.
