Hi I've spent the past few months working with RPN interactive on an iPhone game, using Blender heavily in our pipeline for 3D assets and animations. All the 3D assets for the game and many animations for 2D elements were done with Blender, and other open source software (GIMP and Inkscape) were used for the 2D assets. Here's a nice and embarrassing story: German hacker Ray, who is well known for opening handcuffs, has photographed the official handcuff key of the Dutch police, modelled it in Blender and printed it on a Reprap 3D printer. And guess what? It works!

Despite just having become a father last week, JesterKing has already picked up coding again and has hacked together a real-time (well, updated every 5 minutes) graph of the Durian sales. The height of the graph represents 2000. Each dark gray horizontal line represents 500, where the lighter gray are 250. More info on his blog. Haven't ordered yet? Here's your chance!
You might have seen this in Ben Dansie's Durian application demo reel (after being selected as one of the final Durian team members), but he has recently come up with a very cool way to make flames and fire using Blender.
I'd like to proclame a new record of number of polygons ever rendered in Blender: 1.15 billion tris with blurry reflections. Rendertime 23 min, Mem 200 mb
Can anyone top that?
We haven't reported any Blender sightings for a while, but I find that it still amuses me to see Blender screenshots in strange places. So for today: Blender on the homepage of Eizo, supplier of professional computer monitors.
From the department of Blender-related-oddities: a WordPress theme styled completely after Blender. I must say, Blender's UI on a website in this way is shockingly ugly ;-) The announcement is in German, but you can grab a download here.
