Fresh Blender News, Every Day
That's right. To celebrate BlenderNation's first Birthday, rather than giving BN something, let's give a whole school to those who need it.
Don't stop giving yet; read the update at the bottom of this article.

If you're reading this, then we're either: celebrating new year (or preparing to, depending on our timezone), or recovering from it ;-) But don't let that stop us from wishing you an excellent 2007! May all your feature requests be granted and all your Blender projects be even better than last year!

Yesterday I was posting a new event (a Blender demo in Baton Rouge) to the Event Calendar and I was wondering if people actually notice new events showing up there. So let me ask you: do you read the Event Calendar and do you notice when new stuff appears in it? Is it a useful part of the website? Any suggestions for improvement?

We have few announcements to make: we have two new team members, did a software upgrade on the site and I'll be away for a few weeks. Read on for the details!

Here's some cool news I just *have* to share with you: yesterday I booked a flight and a hotel in Boston which means that I'll be going to Siggraph together with Ton and a third Blenderhead who has yet to reveal himself. Oh, happy day! (Read on to see why this is good news for you, too)
If you have followed us over the last six months, you know we're nuts about Blender news. In fact, we have a 'mission statement' that tells us that we publish daily news and nothing more. We're not interested in adding forums, user galleries, private messages or other cool community features - we'll leave that to the community sites. And once they do, we'll tell you about it here!
We did however find that we regularly publish about contests, user meetings or other events that have their moment of fame here but once the moment arrives most people have forgotten about them. So we decided we needed an easy to use calendar that shows you the upcoming events in a way that is nicely integrated with the rest of the website.
BlenderNation started as an experiment in blogging three months ago. By now, the site receives some 5500 unique visitors per day and the combination of a 10 year old 300Mhz server and a cable modem didn't quite cut it anymore.
When I was playing with blogging for the first time in January I wrote '..we’ll see where this goes :-)'. Well, it certainly went somewhere! Here's a short overview of where we are today.
Many people (well, to be honest: about 10 ;-) have asked us to prepare some buttons or banners that they can put on their website to link to BlenderNation. Not only did we do that, but we have decided to take it one step further: you can now easily publish the BlenderNation headlines on your own website.
Yesterday I had connectivity problems with my ISP. I suspect their DHCP server died and a a result BlenderNation was unreachable for a few hours.

Things are going well with my new site. Hundreds of people visit each day and the number of visitors is continually rising. It must mean I'm on to something :). To celebrate this I've moved it to a new domain: www.blendernation.com.
It has been years since I have last updated my website. To my astonishment, still over 300 people visit each day and I figured I need to put in some more effort. I still need to integrate the layout of my tutorials with the rest of this site, but we'll see where this goes :-)
Update: I got some questions about the number of visitors so I re-checked my numbers. It turns out that I have around 400 unique visitors per day of which 85% are new. Let's see what the Blog will add to that!
