Julius Tuomisto and Nathan Letwory (alias jesterKing) are going to present a 45-minute seminar session with the topic “Integrating publicly distributed rendering with Blender: Case Renderfarm.fi” on Saturday the 7th of August, at the ArtTech 2009 seminar in Helsinki, Finland. The seminar is free for participants of Assembly 2009. The session will also be made available as a Video-on-demand file on the ASSEMBLY web site. The delay from the presentation to the release of the video file is approximately 12 hours.

The presentation will give a brief overview of how the publicly distributed rendering service Renderfarm.fi works, what are its aims and how we’ve integrated it with Blender. There will also be a demo of Blender 2.5 – the long awaited new version of Blender with a rewritten core.

Renderfarm.fi is a service that enables computer owners lend their computer’s spare processing cycles to making 3D graphics and art. The service, which is currently in beta, aims to combine the BURP (Big and Ugly Rendering Project) and BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) technologies with Drupal’s powerful modular properties in order to provide for a more interactive and user-friendly volunteer computing environment. Renderfarm.fi uses these technologies to enable its users to create graphics that they would otherwise be largely unable to render in high quality.
