7.jpgIn 3D World’s question of the month the question “How do I animate a raft adrift on the surface of the ocean?” was answered by Bassam Kurdali with a Blender tutorial. It is now free for download in .pdf form complete with sample files at different stages.

The tutorial ends up with a very nice cartoon styled result, but the method can pretty easily be tweaked to obtain more realistic ocean surfaces. However if one wants even more photo realistic ocean, some of Colin Litster’s techniques might be better.

Continue to Computer Arts Magazine to read the tutorial.

First the walk cycle. Then UV mapping / texturing. Now water. Whatever next? Blender getting some more exposure :)

Yea, that was a cool tutorial tho it should be pointed out that the regular 'top-tip' tutorial section in 3d world (where this originated) has maya, max, xsi, cinema3d tutorials every month.

Not as many blender tutorials as I'd like to see in 3dWorld. Specially when they just regurgatate the same tuts with different meshes every 4 months ;)

  6. 6 Xtra

Hm, nice, but not really realistic. Maybe realism was not the intention here.
