Blender Movie Project: Plumíferos

You may have seen their early trailer which was nominated for the Blender Art Festival 2005. They are working on a HD version of this one which will hopefully be released in the next few weeks.

The scale of this project is much larger than Elephants Dream. Malefico Andauer writes:

We have currently 10 people working on 3D, 6 people in the art department, 2 people in production department and the director (Daniel DeFelippo). We have a schedule of 18 months for the whole production. For rendering we are in the process of setting up our own renderfarm (around 24 computers in 2 racks).

During next weeks we’ll be modelling characters, preparing material/textures libraries and making all needed riggings. Our plan is to render with the internal Blender renderer. we’re using Blender CVS for everything including postproduction.

Unlike Elephants Dream, Plumíferos will not be an ‘Open Source’ movie. Still, Blender will undoubtedly profit from their work:

Plumíferos is a full lenght commercial animation film. Nevertheless, we collaborated closely with the Blender Foundation in the development of Blender as an animation tool and surely, all the improvements that arise as a result of this project will be opportunely integrated in the future oficial versions.

From what they’ve shown so far this is a very promising project. We’ll keep a close eye on this project and report back to you when they report progress.
