“Les Vepres de Sang” is a short film created and produced by Eudes Menager de Froberville who is also the president of a French company called Omnimedia-Jdr.

During the summer of 2005 and 2006 I was in charge of the film production (story-board, animation, lights, render…), which was done during my school studies.

I have worked with computer graphic since 1999. Working with graphics I developed a big interest in adventure games and I decided to learn 3D. In 2001, I began my biggest project named “Maratis”, a 3D game development tool that featured non-realistic 3D rendering. During studies in a French game school called “ENJMIN” (first French public game school), we developed a small 3D game with Maratis. The game “Le Jardin de Mirabelle” featured a “hand drawn” render style which was awarded for best graphic at the Imagina 2006.

07.jpgI discovered Blender in 2005 and was impressed with its capacities and features. When we started working on the movie “Les Vepres de Sang”, I decided to use Blender. The difficult part on this film was to create a rendering with soft shadow on omni-lights and including depth of field. I solved the task by using 16 render passes (with motion blur) with a “micro move” on lights and camera position. Render time was a bit long, but this method rendered motion-blur, soft-shadow and depth on field at the same time.

08.jpgSix months later, we founded a game studio called “Studio Le caillou”, with Eudes Menager de Froberville, Goran Vbrancic and Johan Spielmann. Based in Paris, Le Caillou is created in large part by ex-students of the first European school of video games (ENJMIN). Le Caillou is specialized in video games for different consoles and also develops serious games for the medical research area.
At the present, we are working on a Nintendo-DS game.
