Blender and pokedstudio

Blender has become an important design tool at pokedstudio. Being both open source and free means that more small design studios can integrate 3d illustration into their work flow. It gave me the confidence to take the dive into learning 3D graphics without the risk of spending thousands of pounds on commercial software that I may use rarely or just have difficulty understanding. Because of this we feel a new world is opening up to illustrators and designers who want to integrate 3D elements into their work, as they can easily download blender and try it out, and they also can benefit from the large friendly community of blender users who readily help when you are stuck.

I feel combining 3D graphics in conjunction with vector and hand drawn elements now form an important part of my work and gives it a distinct feel. I have aimed for a look that is different to main stream 3D work as I like to use it as a creative tool rather than just to make the most detailed or realistic image 3D image. Though having said that I often use blender just for simple everyday design jobs such as creating 3D maps and icons.

I was happy to talk of the benefits of using Blender when I was featured in Digit magazine, which also used several of my works , some of which were created with the use of blender. This I hope will bring some public awareness of Blender, and help it develop as a serious tool for illustrators and designer who are shut out of the 3D world.
