Blender 2.49a Released

splash_template_249_1The Blender Foundation released Blender 2.49a earlier today. Ton Roosendaal writes:

Testing is an art… as usual a release shows the real issues! A lot of work has been done to tackle the reports in AO render, Game Engine and Sequencer especially.

    Where's the Intel Mac build?

  2. 2 zapman

yes, 2.49a is out! Thank you to all people who were involved!

  3. 3 BlenderLovingPandaBear

it's funny but none of those bugs really effected me at all ^^

  4. 4 STart_blender

Is any one having the same problem on ubuntu 9.04 layers shortcuts on keyboard like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 doesn't work

  5. 5 Lasphere

    Great!

  6. 6 Hedge

There are reports that this release also suffers from Linux-specific bug or regression that will make render times long. (from blenderartists)

  7. 7 Trebawa

    Another step closer to 2.5!

It states "Wavefront OBJ support to import & export curves as OBJ native curves (rather then a bunch of edges)" but if you read the py file this is not the case. it says in it turns the curves into meshes. I think I am missing something.

thanks for the build. blender just gets better and better.

@val, which files are you looking at, 2.49a should have…
    write_nurb in export_obj.py:195
    create_nurbs in import_obj.py:542

Only support for bspline currently works (nurbs curves)
this addition was funded by http://polydimensions.de

I feel so rejected. No 2.49a for Mac Intel.

  11. 11 val

    @campbell Barton
the export_obj.py file that comes with 2.49a is v1.1 it doesn't have the word write_nurb anywhere in the file. I used notepad and cntrl+F

    thanks

… its the nature of free software. For Linux (over at http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/) they list thousand of bugs every week that thousands of people are working on and fixing. Very very little if any of it ever affects me. I rarely if ever see any of it. One time I did find something that affected me (and my bellyache and testing along with a senior systems engineer at Intel) fixed one of those bugs. A lot of times these software bugs are obscure and may not affect you. I hadn't found any bugs in the 2.49 blender, but someone did, thus we have 2.49a, a cleaner, better Blender. It also helps to develop cross-platform and multi-architecture, as that helps shed light on more bugs, keeps the software from becoming 'inbred', and better, overall.

Great! Let's get back to work. lol

    @ cambell Barton

I'm an idiot. I was looking the 2.49 py folder files.
    sorry for being a pain

Just an FYI. The USA download link for 64-bit Linux + Python 2.5 doesn't seem to be working. I get about 500 bytes, then it quits. Got it from the Germany site fine.

Well I hate to be sourpuss when I should be pleased as punch over a more stable Blender, but at the same time I wish the devs had waited and put out another RC before releasing 2.49 as stable. I had downloaded each RC at work to do testing, but at home I have only a Dial up connect and wish I didn't have to tie up the phone lines downloading an update release to 2.49. Oh well, at least its here and I probably might have caught a bug or two before the first stable of 2.49 had I only been on the ball. Glad its out again.

vaya; y yo que todavía no termino te testear la primera XD
    saludos…

We need a Mac version! :(

Testing is not an art :) It's just a matter of writing code which can be tested automatically so you can be sure today that your fixes didn't break anything that worked yesterday.

Anyone had problems with yafaray 0.1.0.315 with this release?
I have tried installing python 2.5.2 , python 2.6.2 and can't get it to work with blender.
Besides this i am loving the new release great work Blender Team.

  22. 22 scarry

Oh, yes! That's what I am waiting for!
    And what about 2.49b, 2.49c, 2.49d, …?

  23. 23 NeptuneKid

@OS X Intel. that is for OSX versions 10.4 and earlier. OSX is now up to 10.5.7

  24. 24 MarcoA

Why is the win version built with Python 2.6 only? It could be a problem (for example for using yafaray)… )-:

  25. 25 Peter Schlaile

Aaron Digulla: testing *is* an art.
Not all bugs (in fact only very few of them) are regressions.
And yes: blender has a testsuite.
BUT: People obviously sometimes forget to use it :)

  26. 26 jawra

Where is Python 2.5 build for Windows ???

  27. 27 OS X Intel

@NeptuneKid. It is for OS X 10.4 and above. I'm running Blender 2.49a on OS X 10.5.7 right now.

  28. 28 DJ_Boxer

On the same computer with 2.49, I am getting an error that it could not initialise correctly with the (0xc0150002) code. Has this happened to anyone else? I also have both python 2.5 and 2.6.

  29. 29 Kanasin

    @DJ_Boxer
    just restart your computer.

  30. 30 Anthony_W

Why wasn't the Mac Intel Python 2.5 not updated? Was an update not needed?

  31. 31 Magiciandude

It won't let me download the windows one. I get an error saying I'm not granted permission. How can I get it?

    Thanks!

  32. 32 Anthony1234

Why is there not a 2.49a for Mac Intel Python 2.5?

  33. 33 Bozo

Hm, this release seems to break anim preview (alt-a, and via python) in some ways: There's a small pause at the end before the anim repeats, which makes looping animations look interrupted, sometimes even the playback rate is way faster than the fps setting.
I think I'll stick with 2.49 for now and just copy the new scripts…

  34. 34 NeptuneKid

yaahhhh! mac Intel 2.49a is now available. You may have to download it from Germany though.

  35. 35 Lancer

This is a great surprise. I knew there were issues but wasn't expecting anything for a while due to business with 2.50 and now with Durian getting underway. I am totally for ironing out the kinks. Thank you developers!

  36. 36 Tom (not Ton)

    Question regarding python.

Will installing version 2.6.x "break" older versions of blender or will things still run smoothly? I've still got 2.48a on here as well as 2.49.

    Never been sure on this.

  37. 37 inazuma

OSX Intel 2.49a build has been uploaded (10.5 / Py2.5) on all mirrors

I'm getting some weird things happening with VideoTexture Using Jaunty.

One moment no video in g/e. Next thing there is video. But the space bar which is suppose to pause video switches between two videos.

Next moment space bar only accesses 1 video but restarts it every time it is pressed.

Wish I knew more about scripting so I could help iron this minor glitch out.

Great work Blender team!! I can only imagine how tedious this work is.
