Babioles

The pilot episode of television show Babioles, is finished!

Mathieu Auvray writes:

I have the pleasure to announce that the first episode of ‘Babioles’ is finished ! We actually did all the 3D with blender 2.49b.
Unfortunately I cannot show it entirely because we need to send it to TV network and festival and we need to keep it away from the internet for now, but I’ve made two trailers!

We’re on discussion with some french TV network and different productions to start the production of 12 or 14 episodes in September. Of course we’ll keep you posted :)

You can also see a 50 second except from the pilot here: http://www.vimeo.com/9863121

Be sure to also check out the babioles blog which has some seriously cute frames from the show.

i can’t understand where there is 3d and where there is real world…
what other software did you use for this?

  15. 15 Mitch

    lol. Great work!

I’m curious: did you do the compositing in Blender or export into something like After Effects?

This looks great! What are you using for camera tracking?

  19. 19 narven

    pretty cool :D

  20. 20 matray

Actually we’ve used PFTrack for the tracking and Nuke for the compositing. Blender compositing system is too limited for such a complicated integration into real backgrounds. (we’ve missed a nice and complex color correction tool, 2d tracking and grain match like Nuke or other software have)
But all the 3d was made with blender, and the renders are from the internal.

    Hey Redbyte,

The producer of Babioles is Nicolas Schmerkin, Oscar winner for best animation short 2010 (Logorama). I’d think that makes it all even more exciting… :)

    I second this:

“Blender compositor is too limited. We’ve missed a nice and complex color correction tool, 2d tracking and grain match like Nuke or other software have.”

Please, Blender Foundation, when 2.6 is ready, give the compositor an upgrade.

  31. 31 Mitch

    @matray Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I do all my compositing, CC, etc. in AE, but I’ve started migrating all my 3D to Blender. But I will add my voice for a post 2.6 upgrade to the compositor :)

  32. 32 ton

If we do a bit well with durian (= sell plenty dvds! :) the next project then is Mango, which is meant to have a vfx theme, with dev focus on matchmove and colorgrading tools.

  33. 33 Mitch
