Auto Keying in Blender
Did you know that you can set up animations without manually inserting keyframes? Eugene has published a good short videotutorial on this topic. It’s good to see you back in Blenderland, Eugene!
In other packages this feature is fairly prominent, but for newcomers to Blender, it’s not so apparent. This video weighs in at just over 2 minutes, but it didn’t need to be longer. If you want to see a simple button that will remove the need for the “I†key to insert a key frame, then this is the video for you!

I wonder why this button is not in the action panel… Actually in the Plumiferos´s blender compiz we do have it there.
I think it´s faster activate it from there than open a timeline panel, activate it, and then open the action editor again.
Just my opinion.

What we REALLY need is some way to delete keyframes from the timeline window, so we don’t have to go all the way into the friggen IPO editor just to delete one keyframe!
I didn’t know about that site, but now that I do, I am AMAZED!!! Very nice site!
I already knew about the auto-key feature, but I still find this site very informative.
@Bataraza: I always have an action editor AND a very narrow timeline window.
@LazyCoder: something like the action editor? or the NLA editor? I use one of the two depending of what I’m doing, except for simple objects where I use the IPO editor.
Great tip. I found out about this a while back, but it can be annoying if you are moving and adjusting objects during animating, and it inserts keyframes when you don’t want them.
->This can also be turned on in the User Preferences, in the Edit Methods under Auto Keyframe, where you can specify slightly more as to how you’d like it to work.
This also allows you to set Auto Key framing as your User Default, by turning it on in User Preferences, and pressing ‘Control + U’

Exactly , it would be nice if there was an option to insert key only for armature pose mode .

For true newbies only ,because de button is obviously its function .
If I remember correctly we had this possibility several years well hidden in the Info-Window ;-)
Maybe nobody used it because you first learn it the hard way (forgetting to press I and loose a animation) before you find the Info-Window which is hidden well also ;-)
