Amazing Animation Tales
The Argentinean studio McFly Studios is working on a series of short 3D films using Blender. Jorge Rausch (of Plumiferos fame) reports.
Hi! My name is Jorge Rausch and I’m writing to let you know that, at the studio where I’m currently working (), we have created a team of artists to develop a number of short films using Blender as 3D software.
For this reason, we have developed a website called A.A.T (Amazing Animation Tales), where we’ll show step by step details of each ongoing project.
It’s important to highlight that we’ll share some of the original files used in each short film with the Blender community.
One of the most challenging points of this first project is the implementation of scale models as scenography.
“The strongest man on Earth” is the first of all the stories, which is currently at character design stage.
During these weeks we are going to upload some of the work done for the main character design, so keep in touch!

AAT is a really nice idea.
I have a question for the makers of “The Strongest Man on Earth” (in fact it’s for studio artist in general I think).
Is it really useful to make a clay model of your character beforehand? What does it bring to the creative process? Is it simply easier to “sketch” out the model out of clay instead of doing it in 3D?
Can you deduce the constrains it will have during animation or the joints limits?
In fact, does it have any specific usefulness for animation or is it just because you like to play with clay? (I would do to, if I had the workspace and wasn’t a messy sculptor ;) )

What happened to the Plumiferos project? The last English blog entry is dated March 14th, 2008.
Plumiferos is dead due to a lack of funding.

Hey guys!! First of all thanks a lot for all your comments, we are really glad some of you are already excited just for looking so little about the production of The Strongest Man on Earth.
Aws357 thanks for your interest on the project´s workflow, you asked about the usefull of having a clay model.Well in this project the clay model help us a lot in order to visualize the character design and make the final adjustments prior to model it on 3d, our Sculptor and 3d Modeler Alejandro Barbesi choose this workflow because he comes from traditional art and is easier for him to sculpt a clay model and study it´s anatomy and weights and then with all the information gathered from the clay model go trough the 3d modeling stage.
Also, this shortfilm has a very important scene where is going to mix live action with 3d, so the clay model is going to be a great prop for having a solid reference for lighting and composition at the live action shooting.
And finally, who doesn´t want to have a super action figure clay model of his main character !!!!! lol
