Meeting minutes, 5 September 2010
This week’s meeting. As usual a few subjects were discussed. This includes word wrapping, sequencer, new splash and etc.

Here are notes from today’s IRC meeting.
Current projects
- Sergey (nazgul) is working on text editor word wrap fix, patch will be submitted for review.
- For animation curves, there is still a pending issue with allocated data paths, such as sequence->color, node->custom etc. This is a basic design issue in Blender, which will take redesign time to fix… for now we accept the limitation, as it’s already definitely better than 2.4x was.
- Peter Schlaile will work on fixing Sequencer proxy/speed issues
Blender 2.5, todos, next test build release
- Reading saved keymaps is still not functioning properly, Martin has it on the todo still. Will be lifted over this beta.
- Bug in reading keymaps (tracker 23552) will be fixed before beta by Campbell, so it works as previous release.
- This wednesday I like to call for release-builds, unless someone finds serious showstoppers. Please notify it on the bf-committers list!
- Nathan will coordinate release logs, to note what’s better & fixed, and where main issues are still.
- Linux release: there are issues linking with libgz and libtiff now (fedora/opensuse). Ken Hughes looks into it, and reports here if there’s issues to review. It might become static linked.
- Splash: Ton asks Durian team to pick a cool one, and not with sad looking people this time! :)

Ohhh, sad looking is how I feel when I realise there are lots of bugs left to squash. Thankyou to all those people slaving over bugs and new code too. I can’t wait.
Blender is already pretty stable and very useable. Im currently using it for a project and its very satisfying working with it. The new interface is really much better than in 2.4, even if you are used to 2.4 for years.
It’s still called Beta for a reason, so if you’re planning any major projects, then you should stick with 2.49.
Saying that though, I encounter little problems in 2.5. So for the hobby designer like me, it’s fine and dandy!

Finally fixing the sequencer speed!! That’ll make happy a lot of open source users :D
While modeling and animation tools are quite stable now(and have better usability than the old ones), blenderplayer is still buggy. I hope that someone will stabilise it before october 2010, I´m getting tired of fixing blenderplayer(yes, it is stubs.c) myself :D
But for now, work done on Blender is just great, thank you all blender developers :-)
p.s. there will be one more open movie(mango?) and than a game, am I right.(A tradition of two movies- one game could start :D )
I wish I could really contribute to blender coding.
but I am really know good when it come to low level programming…
Come on guys I am with you on that one.
Can’t wait for the release. I haven’t encountered bugs but I have met performance issues with recent builds… even if I do the advice others give to improve its performance. I hope it gets resolved soon.
The new Blender rocks! After you get used to it, the old one seems quite cumbersome. Everything is neatly organized now, the features are ironed out, it looks and behaves much more professional. And I’m glad the bugs are being quickly exterminated. I had a few problems with the recent official Beta release, but I’ve just downloaded the most recent optimized build from graphicall.org, and the problems are gone! I’m back to Blender after a break, and it’s great to start afresh with a new ‘incarnation’. I’m passionately watching tutorials and it’s exciting to get familiar with the new version, as well as generally refreshing the skills.
