2 Unity Games, Monster Truck Hero and No, Human
Here are 2 games with different styles, Monster Truck Hero (PC/Mac) and No, Human (iPhone). Both games are Unity based.

Btw. All the assets on “No, Human” were also built and animated in Blender (2.49)

y’know, if blender’s game engine could compile your games, it’d be much better cause you don’t have to worry about someone stealing your assets and such.

Unity is a really bad engine.
You should use it on smartphones and the internet and not on a personal computer…
Unity-graphics really suck…
I just tried out this monster-truck game (the demo)…
well…
the gameplay is just like in “excite-bike” but the conversion of input sucks and graphics aren’t that “brilliant” as promised in the settings ;)

But PLEASE use a “real” engine next time, ‘k?
Am I the only one underwhelmed by these games? They would have been passable a couple decades ago, around the time of the first 3d consoles such as N64 and PlaystationOne, but today these just look clunky and dated.

Warning, I’m ranting a little bit here. Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not trying to attack you, or your opinions, beliefs or preferences. It’s just that this has been bugging me for a while, and your comment sort of tipped the scale.
That said, I really hate this attitude that some people have that games have to be bigger and better than what was possible ten years ago in order to be worth playing. And specifically, that the graphics in a game have to be.
Does every game have to push the envelope? My personal favorite games are mostly ones that could be played on the Sega Genesis and Dreamcast consoles. I agree that both No, Human and Monster Truck Hero seem to lack polish. But when I play a game, I play it to have fun. Starcraft 2 is selling like cell phones, despite the fact that it’s not that different from 12-year-old Starcraft 1. Both games are great fun to play. I’m eagerly awaiting games like Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and Ivy the Kiwi?, but none of those are open-source.
Being open-source is no excuse to lack polish. However, we have to start somewhere. And myself, I’d rather play an open-source Cave Story than a shiny new Medal of Honor any day.
Okay, on topic:
My initial reaction from watching these videos is that both games look like they could be a lot of fun. I’ll have to check them out. Though it’s kind of a drag that they weren’t created (I guess couldn’t be?) within the Blender Game Engine. Maybe the next BF game project will change that…?

i agree with blending briguy–its not an amazing set of games. also, its not about pushing the envelope, or making it especially unique (ever seen two action movies, or read two horror books?) it’s about making it interesting. Those games just seem bland. like broccoli.

finally, someone with a head on their shoulders. yes, blender is great, but that doesnt mean that any moron who makes a game is suddenly awesome. (or consequently, that their game is awesome)

Both to Gryphon and CantTell — My take actually stems from the billboard in the monster-truck-hero game that referred to “Next Generation Assets”. It just created a disconnect in me that such a prominent sign appeared in a game without that much evidence of “next generation” gaming about it. Even the code for static models in 2.5 will be missing some non-trivial current generation tools. That’s why the “Nex Gen Assets” sign looked so out of place in the gameplay video. Unless I just took it too literally.
Nice work, good to see blender being used more and more as part of a game Dev pipeline.
Does unity support blender 2.5x yet, or just 2.4x?

i got some news that in Indian are very bad in gaming field.
but the universal image is changing that bad news.
Recently i got some game called “Ghajini”. Which is very bad and poor in quality….
which is also made in India.
When compare to Ghajini game Monster Truck Hero. looks far better.

I missed the billboard. The brief video of the game (both games, for that matter) doesn’t make it look very next-gen to me, either. If you’re going to claim that your product is cutting-edge, you should be ready to back it up.

Do the games seem bland to you because, you’ve played them, or based on the videos above? Because the concepts don’t appeal to you, or because the concepts have been used in some other games? Because the games lack visual and presentation polish, or because they lack performance and gameplay polish? When you say “amazing” and “interesting,” what exactly are you describing?
Actually, Unity is a really cool engine.. One of the best out there and it doesn’t cost a million dollars like some counterparts… I actually use unity in my company and we are developing 2 platform comercial games with it (and Blender as well ;p), coming out for ps3, xbox360 and wii, nearing completion now…
So guys remember, even if the tool is not the best there is, isn’t it actually about the artist?
Also, this stuff is hard to make. If you think you can do better, then do it before rampaging on other peoples work without even knowing what it takes.

I don’t have any hate for the Unity engine at all. And it’s also not at all a matter of “who can do better” than the competition. It’s just a matter of minimizing something that might trigger the cynicism-detectors of an overdemanding and overjaded audience.
In a promotional demo of this kind, and this is strictly my own take on it, I think the in-clip claims should include carefully chosen specifics instead of general superlatives. The “Nex[t] Gen Assets” billboard seemed to me a risky thing to include in any demo video that doesn’t positively bring the dazzle. Games such as “Little Big Planet” have spoiled most present-day gamers, and it takes some work to avoid triggering their cynicism, even at a subconscious level.
For the “Truck Hero” game, the sign could perhaps have said something more like “physics-based scenery destruction”… such would have appeared much more congruent with what was shown in the clip.
So again, it’s just a matter of making sure the advertised claims in a video clip don’t create a really jarring disconnect when seen against the gameplay itself… such could be interpreted as overhype.

Well… I feel like I might be one of the few on here, But I have an iPad, and I played No, Human. And I liked it very much! The writing was really witty, key in a casual game like that. I think I left him a honest-to-goodness 5-star rating. And usually, I’m pretty picky. So it’s good. :)
