The Blender 2.8 Code Quest has ended, but Brecht won't be coming home! He's returning to the Blender Institute (again ;-) as a full-time developer.

Remember that the Blender Institute needs your support to hire people like Brecht. If you haven't already, consider subscribing to the Blender Cloud or becoming a Blender Development Fund supporter.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. That is some really good news.

Can't wait to see what he does here.. Wonder if there will be a quick interview with him to get input form him what he wants to do with Cycles.

Hopefully some OpenCL optimization ? I really have enough of waiting for the kernel to compile every time I open Blender.

  2. Very good news for Blender! Poor Brecht will for ever be haunted by this one unfortunate photo of him :D
