Does you scene constantly crash when rendering on the GPU because it's simply to big? Well then this could solve your problem: Auto texture scaling inside of blender. Specify the resolution the image should get scaled to and cycles will take care of the rest. This can save you scene as the memory usage is suddenly only 10% or less in some cases. Try it out and enjoy rendering!

nice tip for great feature.
Thank you for sharing this trick.
oh. this is nice. was kinda hoping that it decreases the texture size LOD-style. like the textures that are further away from the cam. but still nice.
How come 64 textures filled you around 1600mg memory, that would be 25mb each, is that correct?
Well..Don't know exactly why..because from what I know they were between 1-15MB each..I think that the bvh tree and that kind of stuff eats up a lot too..but I'm no expert..
thats a weird already then?! Did you use them as reflection, roughnouss, bump map perhaps?
Perhaps that doubles the memory cause it loads in the textures double. Not sure about this i dont now cycles
Nope..just as a diffuse texture plugged into an emisdion..
Thanks for tip, but I'm sure you could explain it in 30 Sec instead 4:30 min.
Probably it´s something for one Screen with one sentence too.
