Here are the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders.
1) Blender 2.78 RC2
- Second release candidate is out!
- Release logs are also taking shape on the wiki and on blender.org.
Based on tracker reporting and further testing we either do a RC3 or the actual release this week. Sergey Sharybin and Bastien Montagne are monitoring it closely.
2) Other projects and 2.8
- Currently Blender for OSX links to an Apple system library for quicktime (qtkit). This has been deprecated for long, and will be removed from XCode 10.12. We have to decide if we want to drop this, and make Blender for OS X use ffmpg for all codecs.
- Julian Eisel uploaded custom manipulators patch for review. The code docs are here.
- Mike Erwin is in Amsterdam, with Dalai Felinto and others he will do design sessions on the 2.8 viewport. Expect interesting logs and docs!

Are we expecting major viewport design changes for 2.80? I thought that might be more of a 3.0 release goal.
If we waited for 3.0 we'd have to wait till 2022...
nah, the viewport project has always been a 2.8 project goal.

Hi Ton,
what happened to the NURBS google summer 2014?
In particular the openNURBS of Rhinoceros..-
Thank you
If qtkit is dropped from the macOS Blender build, does that mean ProRes will stop working in Blender?
Hi Stephen,
it is not clear your answer.
Thx
As the statement above says, the alternate plan is to use ffmpeg for all codecs, but it seems that ffmpeg supports even ProRes...
Ah that's cool. I thought with ProRes being proprietary it wouldn't be supported by ffmpeg. Thanks for the info.
What about them object nodes? Haven't seen an update for quite a while there.
