Sonic Nickelodeon Ident by Weybec Studio

11

A short animation was published for Sonic Nickelodeon by Nita which led me to ask for an informal interview that will interest you.

Here is the animation:

Introduction:

Custom-logo
Weybec Studio consists of 4 generalists: Pratik Solanki, Niyal Parmar, Nita Ravalji and last but not least, Purvesh Vyas.

How They Landed The Job:

They have been approached with the job offer by one of their contacts, Mr. Vaibhav More, who is an artist himself with his own experience in other commercial work. The storyboard and animatics were included.

Duration of The Project:

The animation took them a total of 2 weeks, including the rendering. Most of the time was spend on pre-production, as it proved to be challenging to create the unique style.

Difficulties and Solutions:

As for every production, there are difficulties that are bound to show up. In this case, the animations with stretchy bones proved to be difficult when trying to handle all the curves, angles and the elasticity of the protagonist's body on each and every frame. Their most challenging shot was the "idaten-jump". With lots of tenaciousness and feedback, they were able to get teh work done within the given deadline.

Tips:

Nita gives her tips on anyone interested in making short animations as such. She suggests to any beginner artist to watch tutorials followed by lots of practice. Keep inspired by following Pinterest, Behance and Instagram. Explore different mediums and styles of animation. She also advises to copy the style of animations to learn from the greats, just keep practicing to achieve greatness.

  1. Nice, there's been a semi-recent trend at BlenderNation to just link to ArtStation pages without any narrative or insight from the artist (and on some rare occasions without any context of what's going on). An interview definitely adds a lot more value to the content.

I'm sure it's implied because it's on this site, but it's always nice to see it written explicitly, the animation was made with Blender, right?

It's a pretty cool animation, pretty good animation nuances and the whole thing flows really well; and it's synced with the audio in a very cool way - it feels like a dance. Was the audio track given to you guys or provided from an outside source, or was it composed/produced in-house?

    • I agree, it is always nice to hear the artists own words on their work.

Yeah good point, I should've mentioned the software.

As for the audio question, i'll let Nita answer that one for you, I sent her a mail as a heads up.

      Cheers!

      Thank you :)
yes the entire content is made with blender. we did editing in aftereffects. The audio was created after the final editing & In - house production was impossible, so we had to out- source it.
