I am a part-time CG/VFX artist doing IT work as my full-time job. I discovered Blender when I was laid up for medical reasons and stuck at my computer with the urge to do something creative. What a find! I've been hooked on Blender ever since and, after posting some of my better projects online, even been lucky enough to be sought out to do VFX for a documentary film and web site graphics. I love the Blender community and how so many people are eager to help others. It has inspired me to start creating my own video tutorials and hopefully be another valuable contributor to the Blender community. Cheers!

  1. Very nice tutorial.

Wouldn't it be possible to just use a mask, and mask out the mountains to make the rainbow just show behind the mountains?

    Thank you.

    • I think there are different ways to make the rainbow just show behind the mountains... but: that's not necessarily needed. Rainbows are sunlight reflected by a wall of rain, which can of course be in front of the mountains.

What looks wrong in the above picture is that the sun is behind the rainbow - it should be somewhere in the observer's back. Also, a full circle rainbow is normally only visible from up in the air like if you're in a balloon or a plane.

      • In the video it is not a rainbow though, but some sort of halo. If you watch real photos of rainbow, you never see sun in the same picture. That's because sun is behind you when you watch the rainbow.

        • Yeah, just what I said when I wrote: "What looks wrong in the above picture is that the sun is behind the rainbow - it should be somewhere in the observer's back." ;)
