Sketchfab adds full WebVR support and releases native apps

3

Sketchfab now has full WebVR support, meaning that you can browse the entire collection of over 750,000 models on headsets like the Oculus, HTC Vive, Gear VR and even Cardboards.

Also, publishing your models to VR now no longer require you to first import them into Unity, build an app, and place that on your device to view it. Just upload to Sketchfab, click the WebVR button and start exploring!

On a personal note, I'm with the Sketchfab team in New York this week. Who'd be interested in a personal demo of our HTC Vive setup? :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Very cool! As soon as I can afford a VR device I will definitely check it out! I'm not holding my breath though; even a cardboard-capable phone is out of my price range right now. :(
