Petri Rantanen writes:

At TV7 I was given the assignment of creating the graphics for a tv series which has different Bible teachers teaching on different subjects a few episodes each.

I first tested the Video Copilot Element 3D plugin for After Effects which I usually use because it is fast. Unfortunately it totally lacks raytraced transparency and refraction, so I learned it's not possible to get the desired results with it.

I had tried Cycles render for one project in which all models were CC-0 from blendswap.com . That project showed me that Cycles can produce impressive results without long render times. So this was my second Cycles rendered project.

The title sequence took about 5 days from idea to end result and then a couple of days for the rest of the graphics which appear on screen during the program.

Since the idea is quite simple I tried to make it look impressive with camera motion and focus blur. The vignette and the lens flare were added in Premiere.

One frame took an average of 1 min 15 seconds totalling about 15-17 hours for 860 frames in 1080p. This was with 64gb ram, dual xeon (2x8-core) setup with 32 threads which I'm blessed have in my use. For some reason the Quadro k4200 was a bit slower than the cpu.

If someone wonders what the letters are in the end of the key, they are Aleph and Tav, the first and last letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

"I am the Aleph and the Tav, HaRishon (The First) and HaAcharon (The Last), HaReshit (The Beginning) and HaTachlit (The Ultimate)."  - Words of Yeshua in Revelation 22:13

What is written in the end of the program is the program name, teacher name and episode title in Finnish.

TV7 is currently in three languages: tv7.fi, tv7.ee and himlentv7.se

Here's the free HDR skydome used in animation.

Peace!
