NASA BEAM Animation

3

NASA is researching expandable habitats for deep-space missions, and used Blender for a substantial part of the presentation of their 'Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM)' project!

Update: I originally posted this last Saturday. As Ifelt the post didn't get the attention it deserved, I'll 'pin' it here for today.

Eric Richeson writes:

I work in the IGOAL lab at NASA-JSC (Johnson Space Center) in Houston, TX. The IGOAL produces various animations and visualizations for use at JSC, as well as other organizations within NASA.

Our 3D work is done entirely in Blender. In the video below, our animation is shown from timestamp 00:50 to 02:00, and involves placing the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) on the International Space Station, and then pressurising it. This was rendered in Cycles.

We always enjoy seeing what everyone else is doing with Blender, and thought we'd share, too.

  1. It's truly staggering to see NASA using dimensions in feet and inches! Sort of blows a hole in the hi-tech-forefront-of-space-technology thing ;-)
