Blender Foundation accepted by Google Summer of Code 2016

Last year, the Blender Foundation didn't make it into the Google Summer of Code [SoC] because the ideas page wasn't good enough (read more here). Appearantly this year's list was a lot better because they just got accepted!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. So when is the UI and workflow going to allow for ease of use for layman's like me and others? I can open Modo and ZBrush and get working almost right away and yet for over ten years still have yet to do anything useful within Blender. I'm no moron but it would be nice to not use hotkeys and or take five steps to do what should take one or two steps for an operation.
