The Blender Foundation has released Blender 2.76b. So where's 2.76a you ask? It turned out that release wasn't very well tested and as a result, it wasn't announced widely.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

This version seems to give an error saying that the Blender.app file is corrupt and should be sent to the trash on OSX. Anyone found a way round this?

Did not get this error.
Downloaded directly from "Index of /release / folder (https://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.76/) yesterday around 13H00 (-5 UTC/GMT). Runs without any problems.

Strange. I also have OSX 10.11.1. I discovered one more thing. When I download Blender archive, unzip it inside Downloads folder - it works. I can now move it to Applications folder.
But... when I download, unzip, move to Applications folder and start from there - I get an error.
Strange indeed... I usually download, unzip and place the folder on the desktop and work from there... Never had problems that way.
