Free model download: Star Trek Enterprise-D

KuhnIndustries shares this beautiful fully textured model of the starship Enterprise. As it's fan art, you won't be able to use it commercially, but it's still pretty cool to have your own Enterprise :)

A high-resolution model of the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This model has been a long time coming... I started it about 4 years ago, then abandoned it in favour of other projects. But I'd always meant to come back to it, and I finally have :)

The polygon count is lower than some of my other work (around 250K), but the textures are huge. There are ten (yes, ten!) 4K images (4096 x 4096 pixels each), which can really slow down your machine. That's the bad news. The good news is that 4K is overkill for most shots. You can scale down the textures and drastically improve your render times.

NOTE: All of the textures were created by me. They are "Fan Art" for sure, but they aren't stolen :)

I'm releasing this model "CC-BY-NC-SA". I personally don't care if you use this commercially, but Paramount Pictures might feel differently:) I do ask that you credit me - either "Kuhn Industries" or "Chris Kuhn" is fine.

If you're cool with all of that, then please download and enjoy - I'd love to see what you do with it!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Gorgeous model... I have been trying to recreate the D in blender for about 10 years now. I would love to have some insight on how exactly you did your work. A tutorial on how you made the saucer section would be awesome!

  2. Absolutely gorgeous. I started working in Blender and have been building a ship from a similar era. I opened this up to compare and you put me to shame. A lot here to dig through and learn from. Many thanks for sharing.

  3. This is paywalled on another site as far as i can see:( why call it free then. 5-10 dollar subscription on another dubious unknown to me site
