Gottfried Hofmann posted this cool fluid video.
Simulation of 2 million fluid particles. Created to stress-test different meshers. Further videos coming soon.
With the upcoming meshing capabilities the fluid particles in Blender will get a lot more possible use cases. We created a really big fluid particle scene and tested the cubesurfer addon for meshing.
The video below shows the scene we created with normal spheres as particle instances. The meshed version will follow soon.

Very cool video showing that blender can not mesh particles reasonably even in 2015!
True dat. But there's hope: http://www.blendernation.com/2015/01/19/cubesurfer-particles-mesher-beta-version-released/
This is not(!) the meshed version. The video for the meshed version with cubesurfer is coming soon:

Man 36 hours! Does anyone know if it's even possible to speed that up? Are there any algorithms that exist to make it faster or is this just how long a simulation like that takes?
With another library this would have baked in 10 minutes: http://www.rchoetzlein.com/fluids3/
But I guess Blender's particle system would still drag it down. We need a new, modern one.
