Free HDRI Pack

9

Maxime Roz is giving away a nice collection of 6 HDRI images of interior environments.

Hi everyone, this is my first HDRI pack, so let's start free. I'm proud to release it after more than 1 year of research and development on the subject. Those 6 equirectangular environments are perfect for product rendering. Well used, they create detailed shadows, accurate reflections, and even sharp caustics.

What you'll get when you'll click on "Download!":

  • A 7K equirectangular HDR image: nice for high resolution renders or close-up renders with clean reflections.
  • A 3K equirectangular HDR image: use it if you don't see big clean reflections in your render or if your render is smaller than 1080p, it will speed up the rendering process. You can also use it for lighting purpose only or previewing and switch on the 7K for the final render.
  • A tone mapped preview of the equirectangular HDR image.
  • A 3D preview with 4 spheres rendered with the equirectangular HDR image.

This is a really nice set, I think ill be giving these a lot of use in logo work. I love the previews too!

  1. Nice pictures !

Maybe here is a great tip for all of you.
One could use a fish eye lens, to create such photo's quickly as the author did.
Such Lenses are a bit expensive, and have only very spefic usage (like generating environment pics).

but when using stitching software one could combine several photo's (connect them) till you get 360 degree view panorama picture. Depending on the software used, it is translated to a fish-eye photo. For Microsoft platform, there is a free program called "Microsoft ICE", which can reconstruct different focal points based upon how much photos are combined (the more the lower the angle till you hit fish eye. so for example 2 picture with 70 degreee angle can be combined to 140 degree.

If this is to much work, and you HDRI is only used for nice reflections (metals etc) and you care less about a high resolution environment images, then look a bit around for auto stitching 'panorama camera'software for a android / ipone, there are several apps for that.

Then one might say thats nice, but i'm on a budget, and i see its panorama but not HDRI.
In that case you will need a camera which you can configure to take over AND under exposed pictures from the same point. Having 2 or 3 pictures taken with different exposure setting, use software like PictureNaut to convert your pictures with different exposure levels so that you get a HDRI picture.

Such HDRI software combines the dark areas of you over exposed, and the light areas of your under exposed, perhaps even more pictures). to get all color info of all light levels. As normal camera's have limited exposure sensitivity (which even get worse with filming).

    • Unfortunatly, it ain't as simple as you suggest. First of all, 2 or 3 images at different exposures are most of the times not enough to create enough range in the image. Five or more at different exposures gives better results. Second problem is you need to offset your camera on the tripod so the nodal point of your lens is right above the turning point of your tripod otherwise you'll get a whole lot of parralax shifting which will make stitching a nightmare.

Nice pack - Unfortunately none of the download links are working any more - they are all blocked due to too much traffic...

:) in addition to that this HDRI pack is not only interesting for Blender users but for the general 3D folks, too ;)

  3. That's greta Maxime, really good of you to share these. I'm sure there are plenty others including myself who don't have the resources to go and collect hdri images, so it's always appreciated when someone knows what they are doing and shares it with the rest. Thanks again!
