Blender Developer Notes: March 8, 201

Ton shares the notes of the developers meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders.

Here are the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders

1) Upcoming release

  • There are a couple of issues open to be fixed, but it's possible to call for an RC this week. Sergey Sharybin proposes that he and Campbell will check on the status tuesday.
  • Open issues.
  • Bug tracker: there are still 157 open issues, Ton Roosendaal thinks it's a too high number for a release and proposes to do an extra week focused bugfixing before going to the official first RC. Proposal didn't make it. We can always do several "RC"s anyway.
  • Call for everyone to help with the tracker and triaging. It's coming down too much to few people... especially a bit more discipline with not leaving bugs open forever would be nice. If an issue is open in the bug tracker it means it's being worked on to be fixed. If that's not feasible, better document it as 'todo for later in our wiki or unassign self or find someone else for it.
  • Bug tracker
  • Cat Splash contest:
Artists keep posting cats! Cat lovers with commit rights can cast a vote. Let me know :)

2) Other projects

  • The 2.75 release is promising to be a loaded one!
  • Mike Erwin (gets Dev Fund grant) will work with Antonis on another step for the Viewport project. A cool and encouraging/fun concept for a usable target has been defined. Wait for more news from them!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
