Unreal Engine 4 Now Free

0

Unreal has made a huge move: they're stopping their $19/month 'open source' license and now offer Unreal 4 for FREE, for everyone. Once you make more then $3000 a quarter on your project, you pay a 5% royalty. While this is great news for students and smaller studios, do you think it'll impact the Blender Game Engine?

Daniel Griffin writes:

Epic just announced:

"Unreal Engine 4 is now available to everyone for free, and all future updates will be free! You can download the engine and use it for everything from game development, education, architecture, and visualization to VR, film and animation. When you ship a game or application, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. It’s a simple arrangement in which we succeed only when you succeed."

Unreal Engine 4 is a modern, industry grade, game engine. With support for many different platforms: Windows PC, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, VR, Linux, SteamOS, and HTML5, PS4, Xbox one.

With Unreal Engine 4 you get full access to the C++ source code for endless customisation.
