Blender Developer Notes: February 15, 2015

Ton shares the notes of the developers meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders.

Here are the notes from today's 15h UTC meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders.

1) Release planning

  • According to plan, we move to BCon3 today! That means 3 weeks of fixing only now.
  • The (big) projects Multiview and PTex didn't make it time... Nicholas Bishop prefers to work on Ptex stabliziling another month, for the next release it's then top quality. Dalai Felinto's Multiview still has open ends... meeting agrees to not rush it in this release.
  • Reminder bug fix: commit for hair sum caused a cloth issue.

2) Other projects

  • Will OpenGL 2.1 be the minimal spec? Lots of talks about this issue, but no decision yet. Mostly because it should not mean we then can start adding OpenGL 2.1 code all over in Blender. The plan is to finish the Viewport GSoC project, which hides OpenGL behind a "compatibility layer". The viewport team should first advise on how feasible this project is for real, and what the consequences or design decisions are (like for advanced shaders and compositing).

Laters,

-Ton-

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
