Blender Guru: The Grass Essentials

7

Blender Guru just launched The Grass Essentials, a pack of 15 ready-to-use types of grass and a training on how to use them.

Creating grass in Blender is a pain. You know you need it for your scene, but you put it off because you know how long it will take. Finding the right tutorial, tweaking settings, rendering, tweaking and re-rendering takes hours, and IT’S PAINFUL.

But worst of all? Even after fiddling with all particle settings, and spending way longer on it than you intended, you usually end up with something that looks closer to cheap astro-turf than grass.

The good news is though, you’re not insane. Blender’s particle strands just simply isn’t suited for grass.

Grass Essentials sells for $57 on Blender Guru.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I would daresay that it's quite a bit more than 15 types of grass. There's 471 different grass models because of variation. There are also many types of weeds a dirt texture pack, dead leaf pack and dead grass pack. I don't know what the grand total number of models is but is has got to be massive!

    • Thanks Nathan :) It's 746 models in total. Not including leaves or dead grass.
Plus, we're already working on more right now :)

      • I was about to buy it cause I think it's very good and I wanted to support your work even though I dont use grass that much, and 50 euro is the limit of my "support budget".
But at the end the 57 dollars became 72 with VAT, currency exchange fee and whatever other else was charged.
I gave up. Dunno if I'm sad or disappointed tbh. Good luck.
