Blender Developer Sneak Peek #16

4

Thomas Beck's latest Developer Sneak peek covers a LOT of ground. Enjoy!

Thomas Beck writes:

Hi guys,

did you ever wonder which features are going to show up in the newest blender release? In this series I'll present at least twice a month new and (hopefully) useful features for all of you outside the Blender 3D development universe... all those features are brand new and will be available in the next official Blender release (this episode and the next two will cover 2.73)...

In this episode:

  • Rename render slots 0:53
  • Border Selection in the image editor 2:33
  • Naming of autosaved files changed (Original filename + process id) 3:29

Cycles

  • Cameras inside volumes are supported 4:52
  • Specular colors in the viewport can now be adjusted 6:04
  • There is a new "Max Bounces" option for lamps 7:19
  • GeForce 9xx are now supported

Grease Pencil

  • Attached to Scene by default 9:40
  • Filling of strokes & Volumetric strokes 11:02
  • Before and after colors for Onion skin 12:18
  • Edit strokes, DW and DQ Pies 14:07
  • Animate stroke properties 15:58
  • Convert to & many tools are now in the toolbar 16:53

Also, don't forget to check out my new book, 'Das umfassende Handbuch'.

  1. 2.73 and still not possible to modify that edge by numbers. where is the exact measurement and the modify panel for that element? that is so confusing...i think, blender has so many features but not the most primitive ones, like changing the size of a simple edge. why are there so many numbers, but not 0,2949, like in the image bellow? how can i change from 0,2949 to 0,2951, i.e. (see the attachment)?

    • Yep, talking of basic features missing in Blender, here is what I would love to see Thomas Beck describing in a (fantasy) Sneak Peak one day:
"You can now give a name to each layer in the 3d view, so you can remember what each layer is for. You can also rearrange the little square layer selectors as you wish just by dragging". You can now rename output window slots but STILL not layers?
"Blender now has a built-in library of basic materials, so you only need to select one of those, and tweak it if you like, to quickly add materials to your objects."
