Gooseberry: 'The New & Improved Sequencer'

8

Well, I might not want to go as far as calling it 'new & improved', but the sequence editor just got a nice visual cleanup.

Campbell and Antony have been up to good things, for all you video editors out there. The sequencer has gotten a face lift! Mathieu’s made a before-and-after screenshot showing the most important changes (note that both are the exact same file!):

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Glad to see VSE receiving love from you guys ! I hate to sound grumpy but, as an option, is it still possible to see what is not used in the video strip, like before ? Because, .... i kind of use it all the time :-/

  2. I'm certain that rounded corners can look nice. These are really quite the opposite though. Like, really horrible. I'm not sure who looked at that and was like: "yeah, that looks good, let's keep it that way". I guess I'm exaggerating... but just a little (I mean COME ON, it makes it look like everything's in the wrong aspect ratio or something). Okay, I'll calm down.

  3. I don't know what is that but I'm glad they are improving all Blender's features, even those I'm not sure I will ever use.

  4. While hiding the original duration of an imported clip or sequence makes the interface cleaner, the hidden information is important for editing long sequences and choosing wich part of the clip one wants to keep/use. For me what the VSE needs is some speed up (if possible). Thanks to Tony and Campbell for working on it though. I'll agree with Prinio Nikos; Blender's VSE is awesome, simple and works like a charm for any kind of editing project.

  5. so goooood!!! My wish after this, is to have possiblilty to plug a VSE track into the compositor. Also, (his might be due to me not understanding how things work and stuff), i have always wondered why the VSE renders on top of everything else..?
