Pablo demonstrates some pretty awesome mesh editing in this quick tip video. While working at the Blender Institute, he received a specific modeling question and with help from Campbell he was able to achieve a result with amazing ease.

Another method

For a more re-usable method, a simple deform modifier (on a vertex group).
Hi Axel. I also tried this method, but the problem is the some of the verts near the top / bottom do not deform correctly at the right angle.
And if you try to adjust the influence of the Proportional editing tool, it affects unwanted vertices
This does also not rotate the horizontal edgeloops, but it skews the twist. which might or might not be what you need...
Big smile :)
Funny that you created the ngon's
Till that moment i think your shape was actually better then their original :))
Great! ...just one mystery for me - why my insert select, de-selects the interior faces? Tried activating the Insert Add-on, but am getting the same behavior. Any ideas? Kind of interesting for other effects...
See the option in the toolbar, I think it's "Inside"
Thanks Iapineige but I think it's a bug in the Windows 64bit edition of 2.72b. Tried it other versions including the latest builds and it behaves just like in the video. An inside/outside option would be nice, but not sure it exists...yet.

Sorry it's Select Outer.
:) Thanks - thought I was going crazy
Maybe too much Blend and not enough cofe ? ^^
Nothing to do with the tutorial, but which blender theme is this?
This is a custom build that Pablo has patched himself, most of it is fairly easy and straightforward to code.
Oh I see, but I really wanted to know what theme is applied to the interface. I liked this gray layout with blue highlights.
So many mesh tricks in a short video! Mind blown.
