3d Scan Your Face and Create a Pumpkin

1

Gleb Alexandrov posted a hilarious tutorial which involves 3D scanning your face and applying it to a pumpkin. Great Halloween material!

Discover how to turn the set of photos of your face into 3d model of a pumpkin, using 123d Catch and Blender. The next step could be to print it and scare the hell out of your friends! If it sounds insane – let’s get started.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hi Gleb, thank you very much for this tutorial. The applications can be very powerful to creating static hard surface assets very quickly. As the 123dcatch process delivers obj with textures, you only have to play a bit in cycles (in BI it is even preset completely) and get a very nice render. You can also use it for shortcuts in sculpting/baking or instant retopology if your model has a sufficient T-pose. So very nice, basically a service from Autodesk for making up that the roof fell on Ton during bconf as he mentioned them ;-))) Thx for sharing. Attached picture of their test project buddha into Cycles.
