Boy there is no love for Sintel or Tears of Steel. Samsung or Sony must included this on their promo disk because the video shop in my local mall here in Namibia often plays BBB it brings a smile to my face every time I walk past that shop to see this play on so many screens.
It's nice to see that the appeal of this short still continues only Caminandes has come close to having the same level of appeal.
I'm not trying to start anything and I love Blender Foundation so don't take it that I'm slamming them when i'm not, but BBB has by far the most widespread appeal of all the open movies. All of the other ones are tailored to an intellectual/European audience. Pixar switches it's movies back and forth between appealing and intellectual.. Wall-e intellectual... Toy Story appeal .... ratatouille intelectual.... etc. Unfortunately all of the open movies have been obscure and intellectual instead of just plain funny and fun save one.
European is a good way to describe the feeling I get from ED and TOS. Awesome in space... really?
Actually my local Best Buy uses Tears of Steel in a montage for their 4K tvs. Don't lose heart! :)
I saw that a few weeks ago, it floored me.
My guess is that it is considered more family friendly, thus easier to distribute as a test scene. Plus, a big huggable rabbit.
Big buck Bunny also shows up in a theater in JanusVR. JanusVR is a VR web browser
I was actually just thinking that project gooseberry should do a Oculus Rift version on it release. It could be the very first optimized for oculus rift on it's release. Could hit a larger segment of the market that way
