21

Sebastian König has posted the first lessons of Track Match Blend 2 on the Blender Cloud.

Track Match Blend 2 is an ongoing course about how to create Visual Effects with Blender. That includes camera and object tracking, rendering and compositing 3d elements into live action footage, masking, keying and rotoscoping as well as set extensions, retouching and footage cleanup.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

well they have made some improvements to the tools since then. there's also been more time to spend using the tools in order to figure out some extra tips/tricks that could help out the workflow. then again you really never know, it could just be an updated rehashing of the first one.
and again there could have been some crazy uses of the tool in a way it wasn't specifically meant to be used to do some cool stuff that may or may not be useful. who knows?

Hey! Great to hear you liked the first one!

I was long thinking how to approach this and decided to first bring everything up to date. New tools make new workflows possible, and some of the techniques in TMB1 are just not relevant anymore. So the first part is mostly an updated version of the tracking part of TMB1. Once the basics are there we can start to explore more interesting and new workflows. That's what's next on the agenda.

      • The first one was totally awersome !!

You have just updated the basic workflow, and more content will come soon ?
        Am i understanding right ?

Will you add some new footage ?

PS: I love your trailer ;-)

          • It was just excellent ;-)

Very happy to hear that !
Do you plan to explore some (very) advanced tracking techniques ?
And some rotoscoping ? (yeah I'm totally crazy)

I'm just gonna quote from the website:

"Track Match Blend 2 is an ongoing course about how to create Visual Effects with Blender. That includes camera and object tracking, rendering and compositing 3d elements into live action footage, masking, keying and rotoscoping as well as set extensions, retouching and footage cleanup.

The content of this training will be continuously updated. The first part focuses entirely on camera tracking, marker setup and tricks for bettter solving. It will give you a solid foundation for tracking almost everything. Later this year I will also upload videos for more advanced tracking techniques, as well as the next parts of this course which will focus on compositing and masking."

            :)

          • I'm very curious if there's a trick for Auto Texture Extraction like in PFTrack or maybe a python script instead of using Texture Paint (Clone Brush)???

As a programmer i believe that's possible however it requires some time to accomplish, i hope that Blender Artists support the idea so that i get some priority ;-)

Anyway & Brief; Good job guys, all of you Sebastian, Sergey, ... Keep Going

Yeah, that would be very nice. I am working on a script to at least automatically set up the painting environment and texture setup, but for an automatic texture extraction I don't have enough skills.... ;)

          • :-) as expected you already started, i understand the complexity of creating such function since texture extraction require a geometry for projection i.e more extras feature points at least a few of them are accurates as you did in your feature video "Using Zero Weighted Tracks in Blender" and it looks that to use such technique, the footage should to be as big as possible (maybe 4K) which requires more computing power, anyway i hope that you publish that script (Alpha at least) so that the comunity "including me :-)" can test it and give you some useful feedbacks

  1. Loved the first set of videos. I've been intrigued about using the tools for 3D scanning larger environments or objects. It'd be interesting to see if stuff has improved to that point.

  2. Do you plan on releasing a DVD or downloadable file when the 2nd series is finished? So we can have everything in one place (in case we are in a far away place for week full of practicing with no internet, yep I tend to do this :P )

  3. I have TMB1 but I can't commit to rolling subscriptions these days, had to give up my blender cookie one in favor of gifting myself a month ever so often due to budget, does blender cloud offer/allow short term non rolling subscriptions
