Thomas Dinges shares the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders.
Hi everyone,
Here are the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders.
1) Blender 2.72 release
- It looks like we are ready for the Release Candidate soon, probably Tuesday or Wednesday.
- We need the splash screen for the RC still, Ton can you check on this please?
- The Bug tracker has 138 open reports atm, but no showstoppers. Developers: If a crucial issue still comes up, assign it to Blender Regressions project. Also please check on your assigned reports.
- 2.72 Release logs are almost ready, mainly the summary is missing. Help is welcome here. :)
2) Current projects
- Bastien mentions work on transfer data from one mesh to others (like vgroups, shapekeys, smooth faces, UVs, etc.).
- Antony is working on custom widget API, that will allow operators and code to add custom widgets to the interface.
- Levon Hudson is working on a mesh cache sequence modifier for e.g. realflow mesh and particles, objs. Should be available as a patch in the coming weeks.
- Campbell works on editmesh select-similar face-regions, a tool to select face-islands with matching topology.
Thanks,
Thomas

I'm really looking forward to seeing some RealFlow simulations now!
No news about OpenSubdiv and Fire/Smoke for Cycles Gpu.. :(
Im with you on Opensubdiv, I really would want a stable version of it on blender for the subsurf modifier. Isn't the multires modifier going to be converted after subsurf?
I'm not sure if Opensubdiv works with multires. But good point here.
OpenSubs would make the animation proces much more fun :D
OpenSubdiv is not designed to work with multires, because it accelerate the subsurf calculation, not the displacement of the vertex. So no big use for sculpting.
They put Fire/smoke and freestyle in cycles in this release. But not SSS :(
Try on Gpu experimental.
I myself still await to hear the status of the Interactive Quad-Dominant Remesh development. But hey, all in due time. There are more developments in production than developers at work.
I think 2.72 will be one of the best releases with the nicest feature set. Can't wait!
That Custom widget API sounds really cool. I wonder if it'll be a internal C thing, or available in Python?
Does that realflow stuff means meshing too?
You still need to do the meshing inside Realflow. this modifier will just let you load the particles, or mesh inside blender.
Who is this new guy? This Thomas Dinges Ton? :)
He's a clone with their merged DNA ;-)
RealFlow, RealFlow, RealFlow - flood is coming)))
Looking forward to NVidia VXGI implemention, in Viewport project ;)
Running on V 2.76!! Still there is no update to load RF particles or meshes!!??
