Deadstar is raising funds on Kickstarter to go to the cinemas

4

Brandon Wright has been working on his solo movie project Deadstar for two years. He's now aiming to release the edited version in theatres and is trying to raise $7,000 on Kickstarter.

Update: only hours after the launch, Brandon had to cancel the campaign due to 'some technical and copyright complications'.

I just started a Kickstarter campaign for the show. For a few years I've been trying to avoid crowd funding, but I'd figured maybe it'd help out the show if I gave it a try.

I felt that if I could somehow get this film into public screenings, I have a feeling people would enjoy a new type of theatrical experience. A theatrical experience created by a sole independent artist from the ground up. But last time I checked you need to have money or be sponsored to have an opportunity like that.

Deadstar's Kickstarter pages contains a wealth of background information on this project.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Yeah sorry for anyone seeing this, but I had to cancel it to some issues with the master copy of the film. Still really appreciate the post on Blender Nation, and I apologize for any confusion.
