Every now and then I break out of my normal workflow to make sure I am always learning better ways to do things. Recently, I decided I would try to use only procedural textures for a bunch of mini projects. One of these projects was a rope.
After getting feedback and a few emails on it, I made a tutorial explaining how I modeled the rope and how I went about setting up the nodes for rendering in Cycles. Nothing terribly exciting, but maybe someone will find it useful!

nice short way of a tutorial, we often see youtube for it, but this is very clear.
with youtube one often needs to playback over and over.
perhaps you could in the end of the tutorial add the sample blendfile
